{"id":82818,"date":"2022-05-24T04:58:44","date_gmt":"2022-05-23T17:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=82818"},"modified":"2022-05-17T14:53:31","modified_gmt":"2022-05-17T03:53:31","slug":"suns-to-shine-on-home-turf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/suns-to-shine-on-home-turf\/","title":{"rendered":"Suns to shine on home turf"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FIDA footy is coming to Queen Elizabeth Oval for the first time in its history.<\/p>\n<p>The oval will host round three of the central conference of the Victorian Football Integration Developmental Association, which consists of two Bendigo Suns teams, along with Rupertswood Old Collegians and Kyneton.<\/p>\n<p>Bendigo FIDA Suns committee member Jedd Manton said the club can\u2019t wait to play on the \u201choly grail\u201d of regional football grounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s exciting to finally be able to play on QEO,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019ve tried to get that ground the last few years, but we were unsuccessful. Now we finally get the opportunity to use it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year the Suns have 43 registered players, fielding two teams each round and also offering fill-ins for the smaller Kyneton and Rupertswood squads.<\/p>\n<p>Bendigo Red and Bendigo White both enjoyed wins in round one, however in round two earlier this month, an intraclub rivalry brewed as they went head-to-head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was quite interesting to watch some teammates tackle a bit extra than you\u2019d usually see, a few bumps and stuff but other than that it was all good fun,\u201d Mr Manton said. \u201cIt was a good game.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82820\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82820\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-82820 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2022\/05\/279204438-1-1024x397.jpg?_t=1652759472\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2022\/05\/279204438-1-1024x397.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2022\/05\/279204438-1-300x116.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2022\/05\/279204438-1-768x298.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2022\/05\/279204438-1-1536x595.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2022\/05\/279204438-1.jpg 1652w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82820\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Round three will be the Suns\u2019 first chance to show off their new playing jerseys. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Among the 43 members are two 64-year-olds, a thirteen-year-old and an increasing number of female players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got six girls this year which is awesome to see happening,\u201d Mr Manton said.<\/p>\n<p>While the Bendigo club is booming, vice-chair Tammy Manton said it\u2019d be good to see more clubs join the division so it can revert to a carnival style, with all teams facing each other every round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you\u2019re in the carnival set up, everyone hangs around because you\u2019ve got to wait until your next game, [and you can] make friends with all the other players from other teams,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, they\u2019re still getting out on the field and having a run.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Bendigo FIDA Suns are encouraging all footy fans to come down and support the club on Sunday, 29 May, with Bendigo Red\u2019s game at 11am followed by Bendigo White at 12.30pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FIDA footy is coming to Queen Elizabeth Oval for the first time in its history.
