HOT cuppas, fresh fruit and cakes were in abundance as The Support People held its second Biggest Morning Tea event last Thursday.<\/p>\n
From 9am to 11am the disability support provider invited their clients and members of the community to the Kangaroo Flat Bowls Club to help raise money for the Cancer Council\u2019s annual fundraiser.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of us have been personally touched by family members with cancer, we want to give back and donate to a worthy cause,\u201d said Belinda Pickering, operations and client service manager at The Support People.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe put on this event and invite everybody from the community, not just our clients and people we know, but we open it up to the whole community. It\u2019s a really good social gathering.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have such a passion for putting on a fundraiser like this and dedicating the funds towards a worthy cause.\u201d<\/p>\n
At last year\u2019s morning tea, The Support People raised $1500 and client service officer Andrea Hemming said this time around that amount was reached before the first cup of tea was even poured.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast year we\u2019d only organised it in a two-week period,\u201d she said. \u201cThis year we\u2019ve had a little bit longer to organise, we already hit $1500 without what we\u2019re taking in today as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything is donated, the venue, the entertainment, all the food. It\u2019s all about donations and we need to raise as much money as we possibly can.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Hemming the total raised for the Biggest Morning Tea was $3500.<\/p>\n
The Support People provides services for 160 people with disabilities in Bendigo and Ballarat, providing assistance for community integration and independent living.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
