VOLUNTEERS at Kangaroo Flat Community House have been working hard over the last six months to get the space up and running.<\/p>\n
The core group of about 15 helpers celebrated their endeavour with a barbecue lunch last week.<\/p>\n
Centre manager Tracey Moss said since Christmas last year the community house has been growing.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe started building our volunteer program about six months ago,\u201d she said. \u201cOur volunteers come in and help us with administration, facilitating some of our art classes, our barbecue.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been building up a pool of volunteers to help start our food relief program in a fortnight.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll bring in fresh fruit and vegetables, and we\u2019ve got warm coats, doonas, blankets and we\u2019re just getting a hold of some other resources to help people with.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Moss also helps run the Eaglehawk Community House and said she is always looking at ways the two locations can work together.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re looking at establishing our community garden, and some of the produce will go over to feed the commercial kitchen in Eaglehawk,\u201d Ms Moss said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn turn, we can bring some of that food over here and hand it out. It\u2019s a wonderful partnership, so many opportunities that have popped up in the last six months we\u2019re just grabbing on to.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Moss said the Kangaroo Flat Community House is looking for an extra person in administration to offer six hours a week, so activities such as meditation, tai chi and a carers respite program can run on four days instead of three.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just so busy in those three days that we need to be working towards opening four and potentially next year opening five days a week,\u201d Ms Moss said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
