ONE of Vivaldi\u2019s most popular and most performed pieces is being brought to Saint Paul\u2019s Anglican Cathedral, as the Bendigo Chorale partners with Glen Eira City Choir.<\/p>\n
Chorale representative Brendan Grinter said the two choirs will join forces to perform Gloria<\/em> in D major<\/em> this Saturday.<\/p>\n Mr Grinter said both groups are led by the same musical director and composer, Elena Varshavskaya, who has been with Bendigo Chorale for about 11 years and Glen Eira City Choir for just over two.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was suggested by Glen Eira, they\u2019ve lost a lot of members over COVID and they wanted to do this work and they needed a few more singers,\u201d Grinter said.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to work with other groups, it\u2019s just about joining forces and resources. It\u2019s not always easy working with another committee and management, but it helps having the same conductor because at least that\u2019s in common.\u201d<\/p>\n The choirs performed the concert in the Melbourne suburb of Brighton two weeks ago, and Grinter said it sounded fantastic.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a bigger sound than what we\u2019re used to because we\u2019ve got about 25 to 30 members,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you double that you get a bigger sound. Often we just do smaller works, smaller pieces, so it\u2019s good to do a big classical work. It\u2019s a nice change.\u201d<\/p>\n Grinter said it\u2019s exciting to be accompanied by Melbourne organist Hugh Fullarton, as the group usually sings with just a piano.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s nice to have the organ, it\u2019s a different sound,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s very exciting music, it\u2019s very dramatic and uplifting. It\u2019s got beautiful solo work in it but a lot for the choir to do as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
