NEANGAR Park Golf Club is welcoming people with a disability to come and try the sport.<\/p>\n
The club has teamed up with local organisation Sports Focus to deliver three sessions aimed at learning new skills and having fun.<\/p>\n
Club manager Oscar Morris said the idea was originally planned before the COVID-19 pandemic, however the recent creation of the new pitch and putt courses presented the perfect opportunity for the all-ability sessions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe genesis of creating the nine-hole pitch and putt was to try and create an inclusive opportunity for people to start golf, either non-golfers or beginners,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to make our game as inclusive as possible for everyone, historically, it\u2019s been game that\u2019s hard to do that with full-course play and bunkers that aren\u2019t very accessible.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis short course without any bunkers and which is relatively accessible means it\u2019s a really good opportunity get people out there that may not have played before.\u201d<\/p>\n
Project coordinator at Sports Focus, Jasmine Noske, said the organisation works with different sport clubs to create inclusive opportunities.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of clubs come to us for support\u2026 clubs might not have too much of an idea as to what they\u2019re wanting other than to engage people with a disability,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe try support them through that process of what that looks like whether it\u2019s modifying their sport to suit people, or just getting them into competitions or games.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt looks different for each club and each sport, but we work one-on-one with clubs to assess their needs.\u201d<\/p>\n
The sessions are currently scheduled for 10 on Wednesday 31 August, 7 September and 14 September and will be conducted by all-abilities certified professional Dean Dixon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
