{"id":83624,"date":"2022-06-28T04:57:36","date_gmt":"2022-06-27T17:57:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=83624"},"modified":"2022-06-22T15:50:08","modified_gmt":"2022-06-22T04:50:08","slug":"laugh-out-loud-opera-coming-to-ulumbarra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/laugh-out-loud-opera-coming-to-ulumbarra\/","title":{"rendered":"Laugh out loud opera coming to Ulumbarra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">AN OVER two-hundred-year-old opera comedy is being reimagined by Opera Australia and is scheduled for Ulumbarra Theatre next month.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>Barber of Seville<\/em>, composed by Gioachino Rossini in the 1800s, is OA\u2019s national tour for 2022 and the show will travel through south-east Australia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The opera is performed in Italian with English subtitles and tells the story of a love triangle between the confident, young and beautiful Rosina, the old man Bartolo to whom she is unwillingly betrothed, and the wealthy Count Almaviva who she loves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Esther Song plays the role of Rosina, and said the show is very witty and full of deception and lyrical acrobatics, driven especially by titular character Figaro the barber who\u2019s tasked with setting Almaviva and Rosina up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c<em>Barber of Seville<\/em> is a comedy opera story that carries many aspects of humanity like money, love, lust, relationships,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Song said despite the opera being 200 years old, the set and costumes are quite modern and fashionable, with vibrant colours and lighting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Opera Australia\u2019s 2021 national tour was restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Song said she\u2019s excited to travel to more places this year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMe and my husband are both in the tour, he\u2019s playing the barber\u2026 we grabbed the chance right away,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cit\u2019s always a good opportunity [to travel], but especially when we go to rural places, I feel more welcome.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey\u2019re much more responsive. It\u2019s a lot of fun and when the audience is drawn in they communicate with us through reactions. It\u2019s easier for us, it makes us fuller as characters. It\u2019s a really good feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>Barber of Seville<\/em> hits the Ulumbarra stage on Saturday, 23 July.
