THE City of Greater Bendigo is hoping a new land management workshop will encourage more regenerative farming practices.<\/p>\n
New South Wales farmer Colin Seis will host the workshop, organised through the municipality\u2019s Healthy Landscapes program, in Huntly on Wednesday, 13 July.<\/p>\n
Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said the event is aimed at all farmers and land managers looking to improve the health of their properties in sustainable ways.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe day will cover managing perennial pastures. including native pastures, growing summer and winter multispecies crops, pasture cropping, soil health, soil carbon and nutrient cycling, theory session and farm walk,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The Healthy Landscapes Practical Regenerative Agricultural Communities Program is a partnership between several regional local governments and authorities, has been extended for another two years.<\/p>\n
Cr Metcalf said the program has seen interest from farmers seeking ways to improve soil health, reduce climate risks and emissions and enhance biodiversity and waterway health.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the past 12 months, the program has delivered popular grass identification workshops, a holistic grazing course, a small property management course, farm visits and many other events and webinars to over 875 participants,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
