KANE Cornes and David King have lauded Geelong\u2019s statement win over Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium last week.<\/p>\n
In a tight and at times scrappy contest, the Cats kicked the last three goals of the match to run out 28-point winners to move to the top of the AFL ladder.<\/p>\n
Geelong carved out more scoring opportunities thanks to a domination at clearance with 54 to 36, despite losing the hit-outs 49 to 36.<\/p>\n
King said Chris Scott\u2019s coaching \u201cmasterclass\u201d helped dismantle Melbourne\u2019s ball movement.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was an amazing performance,\u201d he told SEN Breakfast<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cThey dismantled everything Melbourne tried to do with their ball movement, with their ability to defend behind the ball.<\/p>\n \u201cI thought it was a masterclass from Chris Scott. His coaching was brilliant last night.\u201d<\/p>\n Cornes was also full of praise for the Cats\u2019 coach, declaring it the best win he has seen from any side this season.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s the win of the year, really,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you think about no Tom Stewart, you\u2019ve got Melbourne who are back in form having won their last two, where we thought Geelong might be at the start of the year and how they continue to do what they\u2019ve done, no real contribution out of Hawkins and Cameron, albeit Hawkins was still involved in a lot of scores.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was comprehensive, they won clearance by 18. It wasn\u2019t the clearance number, it was the scores. I think it was 10 shots to three at half-time from stoppage.<\/p>\n \u201cNo one does that to Melbourne.<\/p>\n \u201cI haven\u2019t seen a win more impressive this year. We get recency bias and all of that, but it was a finals-like game, it was tough, it as competitive, it was fierce.<\/p>\n \u201cThey just continue to blow me away Geelong. I\u2019ve got that much respect for them.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s been a masterful performance from a coach this year who\u2019s hardly put a foot wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n Patrick Dangerfield had 32 disposals and nine clearances, Tom Atkins with 21 disposals , nine tackles and nine clearances, Mitch Duncan took 32 disposals, 11 marks and had two goals, and Cameron Guthrie with 28 disposals, seven tackles, and two goals all starred through the midfield for the Cats.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
