{"id":84275,"date":"2022-07-30T04:56:59","date_gmt":"2022-07-29T18:56:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=84275"},"modified":"2022-07-27T16:34:48","modified_gmt":"2022-07-27T06:34:48","slug":"new-exhibition-for-student-art-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/new-exhibition-for-student-art-space\/","title":{"rendered":"New exhibition for student art space"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">STUDENTS involved in LA Trobe University artist-run initiative Rookie have unveiled their second exhibition, <em>Polarities<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Located in Hargreaves Mall, student artists took over the space last May as part of a collaboration between the university and the City of Greater Bendigo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Curated by masters students Jackie De Haart and Annelise Henderson, <em>Polarities<\/em> features 50 works from 19 artists, ranging from paintings and drawings to photography and sculptures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe decided to go with <em>Polarities<\/em> because everybody does different work, with different materials and very different ideas and approaches to art making,\u201d De Haart said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt seemed to be the best fit for everybody who studies at La Trobe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">De Haart said the gallery provides opportunities for La Trobe students from first to final year to exhibit their work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe\u2019ve got about five artists who didn\u2019t think their work was good enough, we actually went into their studio and said \u2018hey, this is good, can we have it\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt was great for them because when you see it hanging up in a gallery, you\u2019re really surprised at how good it looks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThere\u2019s stuff that\u2019s ripped out of people\u2019s sketchbooks down to research in progress down to complete work. There are quite a few people exhibiting for the first time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAnnelise and I have worked really closely on putting this show together and reaching out, it\u2019s been really great, to get to know first years we wouldn\u2019t otherwise know has been really good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students volunteer their time to run the space, which is open for public viewing from Wednesday to Friday 12pm to 2pm and on Saturday from 11am to 3pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>STUDENTS involved in LA Trobe University artist-run initiative Rookie have unveiled their second exhibition, Polarities.
