YOU\u2019RE invited to the 1873 Lauriston Chapel at Langley Estate to witness one of the country\u2019s highly regarded trumpeters perform alongside one of the most acclaimed concert organists.<\/p>\n
Tristan Rebien, who plays trumpet for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and Thomas Heywood have joined forces for a one-off concert, a specially curated program featuring works by baroque greats Albinoni, Telemann and Bach, on Sunday, 21 August.<\/p>\n
Born in Bendigo and having grown up in Welshman\u2019s Reef between Maldon and Newstead, Rebien said the concert is a coming home of sorts.<\/p>\n
\u201cI finished my secondary education at Girton Grammer school and played in and around Bendigo for many years so it\u2019s always good to come back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe central Victorian arts scene has always been fantastic but it seems to be growing all the time, there\u2019s so many good things happening in Bendigo so it\u2019s really exciting to be back.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rebien met Haywood, who co-owns Langley Estate with his wife Simone, at private school Haileybury in Melbourne, where Rebien is head of brass and Haywood head of organ.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s [Haywood] just a fantastic musician and incredible to work with,\u201d Rebien said. \u201cI think it will be the first of quite a few shows we put together.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo inhabit his musical world is really exciting. In terms of manual dexterity on the instrument, he\u2019s a wild player to play with. It\u2019s incredible, it\u2019s electric.\u201d<\/p>\n
The pair play at the 1873 Lauriston Chapel, which Rebien said offers fantastic acoustics for trumpet and an intimate connection for the audience.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve put together a program that people will really enjoy and we\u2019re going to enjoy playing it and hopefully if you come to the concert, you\u2019ll be swept up on that,\u201d Rebien said.<\/p>\n
