THIS Fathers\u2019 Day, the annual Run For Dad is back on at the Bendigo Racecourse after two years of cancellations.<\/p>\n
Raising funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, the event is in its ninth year and has been organised by the Goldfields\u2019 Rotary clubs and Athletics Bendigo.<\/p>\n
Organising committee member Keith Macdonald said the runs is more than a fundraiser.<\/p>\n
\u201cIts aim is to get people out and active and raise money\u2026 but also get out that message that it\u2019s important men have that annual check-up and if something isn\u2019t quite right not to go \u2018oh that\u2019s alright\u2019, but go and get it checked,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Participants can choose between a 7.5-kilometre run or a 3.75-kilometre walk\/run at the Bendigo Racecourse, with the route taking runners around the venue and onto the straight.<\/p>\n
Mr Macdonald said the traditional superhero dress-up theme is back.<\/p>\n
\u201cOften dad or grandpa is a hero, and they\u2019ve had an issue with their prostate\u2026 so it\u2019s dress up as your hero to protect your hero,\u201d Mr Macdonald said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the past we\u2019ve normally had around 250 maybe a bit more in participation so it\u2019s been, not a big event, but a successful event. We\u2019ve raised about $45,00.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the day, the Eaglehawk Citizens\u2019 Brass Band are set to provide entertainment, while local Rotary clubs will put on a free breakfast and there\u2019ll also be a coffee van on site.<\/p>\n
