DISABILITY support workers will showcase what Scope Bendigo is all about at an upcoming open day.<\/p>\n
Kylie Rowe, coordinator for Scope Golden North which operates in the Loddon Mallee region, said the service is operating as normal and has room to grow after being limited during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people were even more isolated because they didn\u2019t have carers coming in and they couldn\u2019t go out and access the different groups in the community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo trying to build on that, getting them out back into the community or offering different programs to do in the centres is absolutely important.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are so many amazing organisations working with disabilities in Bendigo. It builds confidence to be able to live their lives independently as much as their needs allow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Scope Bendigo offers a day and lifestyle options program, with participants taking part in activities like bowling, swimming, and going to show and other attractions.<\/p>\n
Ms Rowe said the program has extended into after-hours, as it was previously limited to between 9am and 3pm, to include things like cooking and dinner events.<\/p>\n
A life program was launched this week, teaching participants things like computer skills, budgeting, shopping, and resume building, and Scope Bendigo also offers a transition program for people leaving high school.<\/p>\n
Bendigo Scope\u2019s open day is on Sunday, 11 September from 10am to 2pm at\u00a02\/16 Lockwood Rd,\u00a0Kangaroo Flat\u00a0and is a free, family event for people to learn all about what\u2019s on offer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
