OWNER of the Julie-Anna Inn and president of the Bendigo Moteliers Association, Kristyn Slattery, has claimed a prestigious Bendigo Tourism prize.<\/p>\n
Ms Slattery is the recipient of the 2022 Kathryn Mackenzie Award, named for the former City of Greater Bendigo manager of tourism, and it recognises an outstanding contribution by an individual to the region\u2019s tourism industry.<\/p>\n
Bendigo Tourism chair Kath Bolitho said Ms Slattery has been \u201ccampaigning tirelessly\u201d for the accommodation sector and providing \u201cunwavering support\u201d to her fellow motel and hotel owners during the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis award recognises the people that put our beautiful city onto the world stage, and Kristyn Slattery is an excellent example of an individual who has contributed above and beyond to the innovation and continuous improvement of Bendigo\u2019s visitor experience,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Ms Slattery said she was \u201chonoured and humbled\u201d to receive an award in Ms Mackenzie\u2019s name.<\/p>\n
During the pandemic Ms Slattery worked with representatives of the Bendigo Motel Association to form a buy now, stay later booking package for people to book in advance of travel restrictions easing.<\/p>\n
She has also encouraged a relationship between tourism and accommodation providers.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve helped bridge the gap a little bit with our members and tourism, bringing us closer together and working as one for the same goal, to drive visitation to Bendigo and overnight stays which increases spend in regions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The announcement of the award was made on Monday and Ms Slattery was presented the award by Ms Mackenzie and Bendigo Tourism secretary Alissa Van Soest.<\/p>\n
At the same time tourism board has also welcomed two new members, assistant venue manager of Balgownie Estate, Lucy Everitt and owner of Rick\u2019s Wine Tours Australia, Rick Creamer.<\/p>\n
