{"id":85058,"date":"2022-09-01T04:34:19","date_gmt":"2022-08-31T18:34:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=85058"},"modified":"2022-08-31T17:48:11","modified_gmt":"2022-08-31T07:48:11","slug":"clear-contender-emerges-for-bombers-ceo-role","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/sport\/clear-contender-emerges-for-bombers-ceo-role\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Clear contender\u2019 emerges for Bombers CEO role"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">AFL administrator Travis Auld has emerged as a \u201cclear contender\u201d for the Essendon chief executive role, according to Caroline Wilson.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Bombers are on the hunt for a new CEO following Xavier Campbell\u2019s resignation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Auld, who\u2019s the head of finance, clubs and broadcasting at the AFL, has been viewed as a potential successor to Gillon McLachlan as the league\u2019s CEO.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Auld spent 10 years at the Bombers in a variety of roles before his appointment as Gold Coast\u2019s inaugural CEO in 2009.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThere are all sorts of names that are coming up for the CEO role,\u201d Wilson told <em>Sportsday.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOne clear contender, according to Essendon people, is someone who left the club as deputy CEO and is now working at the AFL.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAnd that\u2019s Travis Auld.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wilson expects Essendon GM of Football Josh Mahoney to stay at the club under new president David Barham.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">There\u2019s been significant change at Tullamarine with Campbell, former president Paul Brasher and Simon Madden quitting the board, while Peter Allen and Sean Wellman will also depart.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe big question now is the future of Josh Mahoney and Adrian Dodoro,\u201d Wilson said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019m convinced now that Josh Mahoney is going to be part of the rebuilding of the Essendon Football Club.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019m not sure what\u2019s going on with Adrian Dodoro, but I\u2019m absolutely convinced now that despite reports of Josh Mahoney\u2019s future being under a cloud, I believe he\u2019s going to stay at Essendon and help rebuild the club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Essendon is also looking for a new senior coach after Ben Rutten was relieved of his duties with a year to run on his contract.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em><strong>&#8211; BY ALEX ZAIA\/ SEN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AFL administrator Travis Auld has emerged as a \u201cclear contender\u201d for the Essendon chief executive role, according to Caroline Wilson.
