ARTIST impressions have been released depicting the planned extension of the Bendigo Art Gallery.<\/p>\n
Architectural firms Jackson Clements Burrows and Clare Design have been hired to design the project.<\/p>\n
With a proposed modern, white design, Bendigo Art Gallery director Jessica Bridgfoot said the look of the extension building\u2019s will match the presentation of other iconic sites.<\/p>\n
\u201cLeading international galleries are renowned for offering dynamic, vibrant and engaging spaces and timeless placemaking architecture,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis expansion will deliver a next generation gallery, which we\u2019re terming \u2018The People\u2019s Gallery\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe proposed design is on par with iconic international galleries, while offering something thoughtful and truly unique to Bendigo through the traditional owner-inspired pattern that will be proudly etched into the face of the building.\u201d<\/p>\n
A Dja Dja Wurrung artist will be hired to design a piece for the building\u2019s facade, alongside a continued white motif, floating staircase and new second floor for the interior.<\/p>\n
The plans include a student learning centre and interactive children\u2019s gallery, an additional exhibition space, renovated restaurant, and expanded space for Traditional Owner artefacts.<\/p>\n
Tim Jackson, director of Jackson Clement Burrows said the design will enhance the gallery\u2019s appeal.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are pleased to present the design, a contemporary addition to Bendigo\u2019s iconic View Street arts precinct that seeks to complement its heritage surroundings while confirming the gallery\u2019s standing as a world-class building,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Funding will need to be secured by June 2023 or the project will be halted to prepare for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
