THE national top tourism awards have been awarded, and it\u2019s silver for Bendigo.<\/p>\n
In the category of top tourism town, Bendigo was pipped at the post by Mudgee in New South Wales, although mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said the result places the municipality as a \u201cmust-see destination.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c[This] recognises Bendigo\u2019s strong commitment to deliver the very best experiences and high-quality customer service for visitors,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur visitor experience is highly regarded, and visitors have voted us the second-best tourism town in the nation which is a fantastic achievement.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are proud that Bendigo has developed a strong arts and culture brand over many years with incredible events and attractions to draw people here with homegrown major events like the Bendigo Easter Festival, and exclusive exhibitions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know the visitor economy is crucial for our region\u2019s success and we are lucky enough to have amazing and passionate businesses in hospitality, accommodation, retail and attractions who create memorable experiences for visitors.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mount Macedon claimed bronze in the tiny tourism town category, while fellow Victorian town Port Fairy was named third top small tourism town.<\/p>\n
Victoria Tourism Industry Council CEO Felicia Mariani said it was great to see regional Victoria recognised ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegional Victoria will shine on the global stage during the 2026 Victoria Commonwealth Games, and in particular, silver winner Bendigo will have a starring role as one of the four hubs hosting events,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
