FOR the first time this December, Bendigo is set to play host to a huge choral festival.<\/p>\n
Presented by The Gisborne Singers the group is inviting local choirs and soloists to join in performing Beethoven\u2019s 9th Symphony in a full concert with Bendigo Symphony Orchestra.<\/p>\n
The Gisborne Singers spokesperson Elaine Stacey is encouraging people to get involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is an amazing line up for soloists,\u201d she said. \u201cWe have Teddy Tahu Rhodes, who has been in Melbourne musical theatre, Merlyn Quaife who is a well-known distinguished soprano and other soloists like Kristen Leich and Michael Petruccelli.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be an opportunity to sing this fabulous piece of work with this wonderful orchestra and soloists.\u201d<\/p>\n
Known as Symphonia Choralis Bendigo, part of the festival includes warmups and rehearsals, choral workshops, lunchtime and evening recitals, and social occasions.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think some of the choirs participating on the day are going to be able to showcase what they do in their individual choirs,\u201d Stacey said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSinging is a wonderful thing and to be doing that in a choir and to have the back up of soloists and the orchestra is a fabulous experience performing an iconic piece of music.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are encouraging individual singers to come along, take part and join us, I think it will be a wonderful experience for anyone that takes part.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event will take to the stage on Saturday 10 and Sunday, 11 December at the Ulumbarra Theatre.<\/p>\n
Bookings are open for individuals and choirs, with a participation fee for concession\/students $150 and others $170. Tickets to see the show are $55 for $45 concession.<\/p>\n
