A UNIVERSE of discovery awaits at an out of this world fundraising event.<\/p>\n
Set for this Saturday at the Discovery Science and Technology Centre, money raised during the event will go towards the new Bendigo planetarium.<\/p>\n
While entry to the centre is free, visitors are encouraged to purchase a book of tickets which they can use to take part in activities.<\/p>\n
On offer will be face painting, science shows, UFO making, a rocket launch, the Mars rover, and testing virtual reality equipment.<\/p>\n
The event is extra special as Discovery is normally closed at this time of year for regular maintainance.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are really excited about the new planetarium, and we want everyone else to be too,\u201d Discovery manager Alissa Van Soest said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis fundraising day is going to help us get closer to our goal of raising $650,000, and I thought what better way to get everyone excited to reach for the stars than through a space themed carnival of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new planetarium will include a dome theatre and laser projection technology.<\/p>\n
More than $300,000 has already been raised thanks to community donors, the City of Bendigo and the State Government<\/p>\n
Funds raised at Saturday\u2019s event will be matched by a philanthropic organisation.<\/p>\n
The Discovery Science and Technology Centre special open day is set to take off between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, 25 February.<\/p>\n
