{"id":87784,"date":"2023-02-22T15:22:21","date_gmt":"2023-02-22T04:22:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=87784"},"modified":"2023-02-22T16:41:10","modified_gmt":"2023-02-22T05:41:10","slug":"first-nations-rising-stars-eye-big-futures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/sport\/first-nations-rising-stars-eye-big-futures\/","title":{"rendered":"First Nations rising stars eye big futures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">JORDAN Korp and Junior Whyman have received the Bendigo Health Young Indigenous Awards for their efforts on the netball court and football field respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Whyman plied his trade for the Wedderburn FNC, constantly taking on adults as a member of the club\u2019s reserves team and part of the engine room that saw the Redbacks make it into last season\u2019s finals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Whyman said he was excited to receive the award and has his sights set on a bright future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt feels amazing, it was nice to be able to get up there,\u201d he said. \u201cHopefully I can stick to training and playing football and eventually make the AFL.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meanwhile, young goal shooter Korp had an outstanding season for Marong Netball Club\u2019s Under 15s, claiming the side\u2019s finals MVP award as well as being selected in the Loddon Valley Football Netball League\u2019s representative side.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Korp was equally as excited to pick up her award, and also had high goals for her sporting future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt feels really good, I am pretty happy with it,\u201d she said. \u201cI would love to play Suncorp Netball one day and then play for Australia.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As for the teams the pair would like to represent in the future, they picked a pair of bitter rivals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI follow Essendon. I would love to don the red and black one day,\u201d Hyman said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s the white and black stripes that Korp envisions for her future, listing Collingwood as her dream Suncorp Netball team to one day represent.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JORDAN Korp and Junior Whyman have received the Bendigo Health Young Indigenous Awards for their efforts on the netball court and football field respectively.
