{"id":87797,"date":"2023-02-22T15:33:37","date_gmt":"2023-02-22T04:33:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=87797"},"modified":"2023-02-22T16:42:02","modified_gmt":"2023-02-22T05:42:02","slug":"personal-glory-for-team-leader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/sport\/personal-glory-for-team-leader\/","title":{"rendered":"Personal glory for team leader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SANDHURST Football Netball Club A-Grade coach Tamara Gilchrist has been acknowledged with John Forbes Coach\/Manager of the Year honours at the Bendigo Sports Star Awards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The gong came following her guidance and leadership as she coached both the Dragons\u2019 A-Grade and A-Reserve teams to Bendigo Netball League premiership glory in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It was Sandhurst\u2019s fourth A-Grade netball BNL flag in a row over six years due to COVID-19 impacts, with Gilchrist at the helm for each win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite the impressive resume she said she was surprised to receive the honour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019m completely overwhelmed, and it was completely unexpected,\u201d she said. \u201cI was really surprised and I am really humbled and honoured to win this award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gilchrist has had a long career in netball, both playing and coaching and said that picking up an individual award for a team sport was a bit of a different feeling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis is pretty special,\u201d she said. \u201cI have played lots of netball and been a part of and coached a lot of grand finals, so it\u2019s actually a really strange feeling to be individually recognised for coaching.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAs coaches, we don\u2019t coach for ourselves, we coach for our athletes, we coach for the glory of our team, for the wins and the premierships.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As sweet as the award win was, Gilchrist is still hungry for more team glory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis is really lovely and its sits really high for me,\u201d she said. \u201cBut it\u2019s premierships first and premierships always.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SANDHURST Football Netball Club A-Grade coach Tamara Gilchrist has been acknowledged with John Forbes Coach\/Manager of the Year honours at the Bendigo Sports Star Awards.
