{"id":87807,"date":"2023-02-22T15:41:59","date_gmt":"2023-02-22T04:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=87807"},"modified":"2023-02-22T16:40:34","modified_gmt":"2023-02-22T05:40:34","slug":"stars-shine-bright-on-local-sports-night-of-nights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/sport\/stars-shine-bright-on-local-sports-night-of-nights\/","title":{"rendered":"Stars shine bright on local sport\u2019s night of nights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">THE fifty-eighth annual Bendigo Sports Star Awards were held at the All Seasons Resort last Friday Night with three-hundred and fifty people in attendance for the first capacity crowd since COVID-19 lead to cancelled or capped events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The awards night saw the region\u2019s best athletes recognised for their achievements over the past 12-months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As well as the coverted Sports Star of the Year, the night included two young athletes receiving scholarships, as well as somebody being inducted to the Hall of Fame before the Sports Star of the Year was announced at the end of the night.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There were also a number of other awards and monthly award winners recognised on the evening.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bendigo Sports Star chair Sam Daykin said he was rapt with how the night, and the awards, unfolded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cTotal success tonight,\u201d he said. \u201cOver 300 people in the room, we couldn\u2019t ask for anything better, it has been a great night.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mr Daykin said the awards night was important for a large number of people right across the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s great for the athletes getting the recognition that they deserve,\u201d he said. \u201cBut also, for the community who get to come celebrate them.
