{"id":87812,"date":"2023-02-22T15:44:29","date_gmt":"2023-02-22T04:44:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=87812"},"modified":"2023-02-22T16:39:40","modified_gmt":"2023-02-22T05:39:40","slug":"swim-star-takes-home-major-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/sport\/swim-star-takes-home-major-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Swim star takes home major award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">JENNA Strauch is the 2023 Bendigo Sports Star of the Year award winner after claiming silver medals at the World Championships and Commonwealth Games in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While the 25-year-old breaststroke swimmer couldn\u2019t make it on the night, she had her family on hand to receive the award, and recorded an acceptance speech for the crowd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Strauch said she was honoured to be the latest name added to the long list of Sports Star of the Year award winners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI am so excited to be recognised about what I have been able to achieve in my sport of swimming,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt really is a true honour to even be mentioned in the same sentence as some of the most elite athletes that have come through Bendigo and given their sport some of its greatest moments.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Strauch reflected on her World Championship experience, where she finished second in the finals after qualifying fastest, and said she felt the full support of the community behind her.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHow amazing is this,\u201d she said. \u201cA little girl from Bendigo who had a passion for swimming has worked all the way up to being at the World Championships with the fastest athletes in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhat really sat with me though was how supported I felt by the Bendigo community, and I knew whatever I did out there today I had entire group of people supporting me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JENNA Strauch is the 2023 Bendigo Sports Star of the Year award winner after claiming silver medals at the World Championships and Commonwealth Games in 2022.
