REPAIRS to the cycling track, new line markings, lighting upgrades, and the installation of new fencing are all set to go ahead at the Tom Flood events precinct this year.<\/p>\n
The works come following a $900,000 grant from the State Government and will follow the recent $1.1 million upgrade to the sports centre\u2019s oval which included a new drainage system, new soil, and drought-tolerant grass.<\/p>\n
City of Greater Bendigo\u2019s director of healthy communities and environment Stacy Williams said the municipality will try to ensure the upgrades cause as little disruption to users as possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cycling track works will be undertaken from mid-March to mid-April and the track and oval will remain closed to the public until complete,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe installation of the new fencing will be completed by late September with minor impact on public access to the track.<\/p>\n
\u201cLighting upgrades will be complete by June 2024 with no impact on public access to the site.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Williams said the upgrades should be a boon for a number of athletes and sporting groups including AFL, soccer and gridiron teams and reduce the usage of nearby Queen Elizabeth Oval.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s International Madison had to be canceled as a result of ongoing works at Tom Flood, while the Bendigo Gift was moved to Flora Hill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
