BENDIGO musician NAYYETHWEY has been announced as this year\u2019s Triple J Unearthed artist who will take the stage at Groovin\u2019 the Moo Bendigo later this month.<\/p>\n
Performing in front of a large crowd of festivalgoers is unlike anything the justice system worker has done in the past, he said, and he was excited to get the call-up.<\/p>\n
\u201cPreviously, I performed at local gigs and shows and like small events and stuff,\u201d he said. \u201cI sang at the Madison one year. But nothing like an actual music festival.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got the call when I was at work and I just went into my supervisor’s office and everyone celebrated with me. It was really good, and just a surreal moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
NAYYETHWEY has been writing music and singing since he was in grade six and is hoping the exposure of playing at GTM will be the springboard that propels his career forward.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully I start gaining a bit of traction and I start gaining more fans, and that’ll create more of an incentive for me to pump out music a bit more consistently,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’m working a full-time job and my priorities are kind of set on that and maintaining a steady income, because at the moment being a fully independent artist brings no money in for me.<\/p>\n
\u201cI’ll keep putting out singles and eventually release a project like an EP or an album. It all kind of depends on the reception I get and the kind of demand I receive for my music.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo hopefully I can make a good impression at Groovin’.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regarding his music style, NAYYETHWEY said it\u2019s hard to place it under any one label.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like to incorporate many different genres into one another,\u201d he said. \u201cWith my main single, my first single, it was very R&B, very smooth and soft.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I had a transition mid-song where I took it a different direction, I wanted to showcase my rapping ability and my hip-hop production skills.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the diversity in my music is something that people can kind of grasp and find appealing to listen to.\u201d<\/p>\n
