WORK on a new drinking water pipeline running twelve kilometres from Golden Square to Marong is about to get underway with the aim of providing water security to the expanding suburbs in Bendigo\u2019s west.<\/p>\n
Coliban Water\u2019s assets and operations chief officer Danny McLean said the project will be completed in phases with relevant communities kept in the loop regarding the works.<\/p>\n
\u201cPhase one of the project is about to begin and will see the first section of pipeline installed between Aspinall Street and the Specimen Hill Channel,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re currently surveying for phase two, which will see us extend the pipeline from Maiden Gully to Marong along the Calder Highway.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll be engaging with the local community throughout the project to ensure residents are informed of our plans and timelines.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Golden Square to Marong pipeline project is just one of several developments planned by the water utility.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe project forms part of our Big Water Build,\u201d Mr McLean said.<\/p>\n
\u201cA five-year program of large-scale infrastructure projects designed to secure safe, reliable and sustainable drinking water and sewerage services to support our growing population.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a critical program that will safeguard the region against the impacts of climate change, population growth and ageing infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr McLean said the five-year program is paid for by Coliban Water clients.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe money customers pay through their water and sewerage bill directly funds major infrastructure projects like this one, and many others,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want members of the community to feel informed and confident the water and sewer services they receive are sustainable and will meet their needs over the long-term.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
