DESPITE the re-launch of the Bendigo Women\u2019s Shed not going ahead a few weeks ago, the team behind the initiative is forging on.<\/p>\n
The shed\u2019s new home was needed after the group\u2019s original home also closed earlier this year.<\/p>\n
Ms Clarke said a third location is now being set up in its place.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a not-for-profit organisation for the women of Bendigo,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s women supporting women, and that is absolutely, 100 per cent what this journey is about.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Clarke said the group now has a hire agreement with Golden Square Community Centre and hopes to run the first workshops from that location on Friday, 2 June.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve got plenty of times available and a great area,\u201d she said. \u201cI have asked for Fridays; every Friday from 10am until 3pm, and every second Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought we could run maybe three workshops within that time. That\u2019s what I\u2019m envisioning.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere can only be eight to 10 people in each class, so I have no doubt that it\u2019ll fill up really quickly,\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Clarke said she was pleased to have received a grant for the project from Women\u2019s Health Loddon Mallee and she\u2019ll be leading the sessions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe applied for $3000 and we got $3000,\u201d she said. \u201cI applied to run \u2018how to fix a hole in a wall\u2019 and \u2018how to change a tap washer\u2019, so those are the first DIY workshop classes that we want to run.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of women who are sick of paying someone to come and do that sort of thing when it\u2019s really not that hard.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMy partner is a handyman by trade and I\u2019ve watched lots of tutorials. I thought it just can\u2019t be that hard.\u201d<\/p>\n
With a drive to continue the Bendigo Women\u2019s Shed, Ms Clarke said she\u2019s aiming to provide a space for women to come together and elevate their self-reliance and DIY skills.<\/p>\n
