SMALL-town artists can often rely on independently run exhibitions to make a living.<\/p>\n
That at least, is the opinion of Marong artists Ray Pearce and Deirdre Outhred who run Blind Cow Pottery.<\/p>\n
Later this month they\u2019ll be holding an art show on their property showcasing the talents of seven Victorian creatives.<\/p>\n
Outhred said all the artists have different styles and there will be a variety of work on display.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s some pottery, some sculpture,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a blacksmith who makes sculpture from Korong Vale, he\u2019s got a three-generation blacksmith shop.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe makes lots of little bits of wire all welded together until they make this great big wire skeletal frame. They\u2019re pretty strange.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnother woman is a printmaker, and she often gets old polystyrene boxes from fruit shops.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe used to use presses. She decided she didn\u2019t want to anymore, she wanted to use found objects to produce the work.<\/p>\n
\u201cDifferent sophistication.\u201d<\/p>\n
The exhibition will open at 3pm on Sunday, 28 May, and visitors can stop by from 11am to 4pm from Monday, 29 May for two weeks.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve decided to enforce this and see if we can have an impact because it means every artist has their own set of contacts so we can enhance each other\u2019s reach,\u201d said Pearce.<\/p>\n
Entry to the opening and the two-week exhibition is free and the pieces are for sale.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re hoping work sells,\u201d said Pearce. \u201cThis is how we all make a living.\u201d<\/p>\n
