{"id":91398,"date":"2023-08-17T04:59:15","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T18:59:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=91398"},"modified":"2023-08-16T15:59:44","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T05:59:44","slug":"art-for-all-on-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/art-for-all-on-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Art for all on show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAUNCHED in Bendigo on Monday for the first time, there\u2019s still a short window to catch the <em>Kaleidoscope <\/em>art exhibition before it heads to Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>The display is made up of works by about 30 artists who receive assistance through local disability support services organisation Scope.<\/p>\n<p>Artist Tayla Justice said she enjoys doing art and sport and was pleased it seemed very \u201cprofessional\u201d to have her work on show for friends, family, and the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is my first year,\u201d said Ms Justice. \u201cI used to do art in school. I was a bit excited when I walked in, I was happy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to make sculptures, I like to choose colours, purples, and pinks. The painting is of a road trip.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scope has groups across Victoria and New South Wales and has been running <em>Kaleidoscope<\/em> annually for several years in metro Melbourne but the current exhibition is the first time it\u2019s been held regionally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to get more interest in Bendigo to show what we actually do here,\u201d said direct support worker and the group\u2019s art teacher Lisa Naughton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a chance to get individuals to showcase their work and present what they do and how they\u2019re involved in the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all about experimental things with different textures and tactile stuff. Some people just really enjoy the process of being in the group and being part of the art program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey get a reward out of it, and generally to take their art home, that\u2019s pretty special for anybody to be able to show off what they\u2019ve made.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just a creative space where we use anything and anything\u2019s possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coordinator, Kylie Rowe, said it was also an opportunity for the local Scope community who don\u2019t see each other much to reconnect and celebrate their work along with their families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnother parent came in and was actually a bit overwhelmed because her son\u2019s artwork was there for the first time and she was quite surprised at how talented and amazing he is,\u201d said Ms Rowe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just so exciting to see them with their artworks, showing it to other people. It gives them an opportunity to showcase their art like other artists do at Dudley House or the Art Gallery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Artists could also choose to put their work up for sale, and one of Ms Justice\u2019s pieces was sold on opening night.<\/p>\n<p><em>Kaleidoscope <\/em>will be on Scope Kangaroo Flat until 4pm this Friday and will re-open in Hawthorn on Thursday 24 August through Tuesday 29 August at Hawthorn Arts Centre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAUNCHED in Bendigo on Monday for the first time, there\u2019s still a short window to catch the Kaleidoscope art exhibition before it heads to Melbourne.
