YOUNG high schoolers in year nine and ten at Eaglehawk Secondary College will have an opportunity to think more about their futures with a careers expo next week.<\/p>\n
The Smith Family is a charity that supports the education of children at 760 schools nationally, and about 300 kids at Eaglehawk will be able to learn more about 22 local organisations.<\/p>\n
The charity believes students who are presented with future career options are more likely to be in full-time work or study in their 20s.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe look at careers education as part of a holistic view of a young person\u2019s education,\u201d said a spokesperson from The Smith Family.<\/p>\n
\u201c[We\u2019re] of the belief that the more exposure kids have to these types of careers education events, and having access to people who are in industries and making contacts, the more likely they are to come out of their high school years either in full-time study or full-time employment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re still assessing the overall outcomes of it; we\u2019ve got some money from the Government a few years back to sort of help do a little bit of research and stuff around this careers education space.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, in a few years\u2019 time, we\u2019ll definitely have some results but we\u2019re just really at the moment focussed on giving kids a holistic approach to education.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiving them opportunities that they mightn\u2019t necessarily have in their everyday lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
Several of the groups to attend include Bendigo Health, Bendigo Community Health Services, Bendigo TAFE, and Latrobe Bendigo.<\/p>\n
The Smith Family careers expo at the college will be on between 11am and 2pm Wednesday 23 August.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
