{"id":95907,"date":"2024-04-19T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-18T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=95907"},"modified":"2024-04-17T20:56:31","modified_gmt":"2024-04-17T10:56:31","slug":"city-seeks-funding-for-more-flood-repairs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/city-seeks-funding-for-more-flood-repairs\/","title":{"rendered":"City seeks funding for more flood repairs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE City of Greater Bendigo has applied for funding for four more flood recovery projects under round two of the Federal Government&#8217;s Disaster Ready Fund, following the flood and storm events experienced across the municipality earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>City chief executive officer Andrew Cooney said the outcome of the funding applications would not be known until late this year, but some works would likely progress regardless.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This work is expected to start mid-year and would include removing debris in and around culverts and bridges, minor culvert improvements and table drain clearing along roadsides,&#8221; Mr Cooney said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would be targeting McIvor Creek in Heathcote, Back Creek in the Epsom\/Ascot\/Huntly areas, Splitters Creek in Junortoun, Bendigo Creek north of Howard Street, Epsom, and Racecourse Creek, Epsom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The projects are:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Huntly drainage analysis and flood mitigation action plan;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Minor drainage and culvert improvement program;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Waterway flood mitigation management plans; and<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Goornoong flood study.<\/p>\n<p>The city has already engaged a contractor to undertake an audit to identify damage claimable under the state and federal governments&#8217; co-funded Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) program.<\/p>\n<p>It identified more than 5700 defects ranging from small-scale culvert clearing to full reconstruction of sections of sealed and unsealed roads.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Cooney said the total estimated value of the works was $15 million.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_95911\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-95911\" style=\"width: 670px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-95911\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/04\/NichollsLane-damaged_86652_tn.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"670\" height=\"499\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/04\/NichollsLane-damaged_86652_tn.png 670w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/04\/NichollsLane-damaged_86652_tn-300x223.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 670px) 100vw, 670px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-95911\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Floods: A damaged section of Nicholls Lane. Photo: CITY OF GREATER BENDIGO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Under the DRFA program, the city has two years to deliver this work and have the costs covered,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We are currently prioritising and programming the works, which will require the support of a range of contractors.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Cooney said about 80 per cent of the city&#8217;s rural road network had suffered some form of damage.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our immediate focus has been on emergency response and &#8216;make-safe&#8217; works.
