The measures, along a 400-metre section of Bakers Lane between Guys Hill Road and Taylors Lane, will be installed by the City of Greater Bendigo in response to higher traffic volumes and speeds, and complaints about dust and pedestrian and cyclist safety.<\/p>\n
City acting engineering manager Nathan Sartori said longer-term changes could be made if the trial succeeds.<\/p>\n
“While this section of Bakers Lane does not provide direct access to any properties, it is understood to be largely used as a shortcut, convenience route by residents east of Taylors Lane who are seeking to access Tannery Lane, Guys Hill Road and Strathfieldsaye Road,” Mr Sartori said.<\/p>\n
“The temporary traffic calming measures will include the installation of water-filled barrier pinch points to reduce traffic flows down to one lane and slow traffic through the area.”<\/p>\n
The city has also applied to the Department of Transport to permanently reduce the speed limit to 50kmh.<\/p>\n
“In 2023 the city placed counters on the section of road and found that about 350 vehicles use the road each day,” Mr Sartori said.<\/p>\n
Bakers Lane runs from Tannery Lane through to Mannes Lane in Strathfieldsaye and contains sections of sealed and gravel surfaces.<\/p>\n
Although accessible from both ends, it is closed to through traffic at Emu Creek.<\/p>\n
