THE City of Greater Bendigo has called for public comment on two proposed strategies considered to be crucial in managing the expected construction of 38,000 new local dwellings between now and 2056.<\/p>\n

The Managed Growth Strategy puts forward that 70 per cent of all new urban development should be constructed in established areas, with the additional 30 per cent earmarked for outlying growth areas such as Strathfieldsaye, Maiden Gully, Huntly and Marong.<\/p>\n

The proposal is partly designed to encourage the housing of more residents near existing services, transportation and commercial centres.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the draft Housing and Neighbourhood Character Strategy has been established to preserve the character of various locations, with different neighbourhoods designated for “minimal, incremental, or substantial change.”<\/p>\n

Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said both proposals were paramount in preserving Bendigo’s appeal as an “attractive, liveable, and accessible place.”<\/p>\n

“The region’s growth is driven by a combination of longer residency, community births, and new residents moving from other areas particularly in central Victoria,” Cr Metcalf said.<\/p>\n

“The increase in smaller households and rising housing costs also highlight the need for affordable housing in the future from developers.<\/p>\n

“Your feedback is crucial in planning for the future of Greater Bendigo, and I encourage the community to get involved as growth in our region affects all of us.”<\/p>\n

Locals can have their say by completing an online survey on the City’s Let’s Talk platform or by emailing a submission to strategic.planning@bendigo.vic.gov.au<\/a> by Friday 12 July.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
