DON’T be late for this very important date!<\/p>\n

A special production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is on stage this weekend at the Capital Theatre.<\/p>\n

Uncertain Curtain, a local theatre group that gives people who identify as neurodivergent the opportunity to develop skills and confidence through performing, is bringing the Lewis Carroll story to life.<\/p>\n

In order to do this, the group has revamped traditional audition, rehearsal and performance approaches so as to promote a neurodivergent-friendly atmosphere.<\/p>\n

The Queen of Hearts is played by Alinta Nickson.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

For example, their rehearsal period has been longer, with shorter individual sessions of two hours, twice weekly.<\/p>\n

“We come in and it’s not just about rehearsing the play, it’s also about learning about the characters and character development,” group founder Sarah-Jane Fawcett explained.<\/p>\n

“In that way we’re also learning about ourselves and we’re developing along with the characters and with each other.”<\/p>\n

Fawcett said the audiences at this weekend’s performances can expect to see the cast “having fun playing into the nonsense” of the iconic scenes and characters of Alice in Wonderland.<\/p>\n

“I hope that their sense of enjoyment is infectious,” she said. “It’s funny, it’s exciting, there’s a little bit of a mystery to solve as to who stole the Queen of Hearts’ tarts, and things like that.<\/p>\n

“I’m really hoping that not only will people find it magical and fantastical and just fun, but maybe also learn how other people see the world around them as well.”<\/p>\n

Catch Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland this very weekend at the Capital Theatre at 6pm on Saturday 22 June or at 2pm on Sunday 23 June.<\/p>\n
