{"id":98158,"date":"2024-08-10T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=98158"},"modified":"2024-08-07T16:34:53","modified_gmt":"2024-08-07T06:34:53","slug":"epsom-ps-builds-on-sustainability-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/epsom-ps-builds-on-sustainability-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Epsom PS builds on sustainability success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THREE teachers from Epsom Primary School have been rewarded for their sustainability efforts after recently taking out the Primary Teacher of the Year award at the ResourceSmart Schools Awards 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Gillian Davey, Sarah Chamings and Erin Salm co-earned the recognition for their dedication to sustainability education, student leadership and mentorship of other local schools.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Chamings said it was an extraordinary feeling to win the award on behalf of the whole campus.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think that it did a real justice to the community that we have here at Epsom, where we&#8217;ve all joined together to create this focus,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>She said the school as a whole continues to busily evolve as it strives for sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s plenty of opportunities at Epsom and I think it comes through the supportive staff that continue to try and make things happen and keep a green focus within our school,&#8221; Ms Chamings said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over the last 18 months we&#8217;ve been creating our Sustainability Learning Centre, an outdoor classroom space, which is also known as our Green Nest.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/08\/EP2_37512.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"1171\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Triple threat: Erin Salm, Gillian Davey and Sarah Chamings are forging ahead after being announced co-winners of the Primary Teacher of the Year award at the ResourceSmart Schools Awards 2024. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve got veggie pods that our student action team, the Green Magpies, were able to win a Bendigo Northern District Enterprise $5000 grant to go towards.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We also have composting bins as well as a frog bog in the works at the moment.
