GIRTON Grammar students from prep through to year 12 will take over the Town Hall from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 September for the school’s annual art exhibition.<\/p>\n

It’s the first time the showcase, this year titled BLOOM, has been held outside the school.<\/p>\n

The display will feature an impressive variety of items, including paintings, collages, sculptures, ceramics and films, plus a mural created by senior students in collaboration with Archibald Prize finalist Daniel Butterworth.<\/p>\n

Girton’s Head of Visual Art, Mrs Nic James – who has curated the exhibition for 27 years – said that hosting the exhibition at the Town Hall will give student exhibitors the opportunity to see their work presented in the same way as a professional artist.<\/p>\n

“It’s a lot of hard work, but seeing the excitement of students, parents and grandparents each year makes it well worth the effort, and the talent on display is truly extraordinary,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Through the lens of botanical beauty, our students have been encouraged to think critically, analyse visual information and communicate their ideas while exploring the patterns and vibrant diversity found in flowers and plants.<\/p>\n

“It feels as though we are growing our very own garden of art here at Girton in preparation for the exhibition.”<\/p>\n
