{"id":99325,"date":"2024-10-08T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-07T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=99325"},"modified":"2024-10-02T21:50:08","modified_gmt":"2024-10-02T11:50:08","slug":"50th-marian-festival-at-cathedral","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/living\/50th-marian-festival-at-cathedral\/","title":{"rendered":"50th Marian Festival at cathedral"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Bendigo Apostolate of Our Lady of Fatima will hold its fiftieth annual Marian Festival on Sunday 13 October at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Wattle Street.<\/p>\n<p>Marian Festivals the world over celebrate events that were said to have occurred on 13 October 1917 in Fatima, Portugal, where a predicted miracle visit from the Virgin Mary resulted in extraordinary solar activity.<\/p>\n<p>Fr Stephen Bolling, the Bendigo Apostolate&#8217;s chaplain, described the reported scenes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2024\/10\/VM3_22496.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"412\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Marian Festivals the world over celebrate a predicted miracle visit from the Virgin Mary in 1917.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During the miracle, the sun, without losing any clarity became gentle enough to look at directly,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It then gave off different colours over several minutes, changing the whole landscape, then started to spin around, before appearing to fall towards the earth.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The 70,000 strong crowd panicked, but soon realised they were unharmed and the sun had returned to its normal position.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fr Bolling said the Festival is a celebration of devotion to the Virgin Mary, Our Lady of Fatima and the messages she is said to have sent during the events &#8220;about devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and praying the Rosary.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So we try to continue promoting those messages and to carry out what she asked by praying the Rosary and honouring her under that title, Her Immaculate Heart,&#8221; he explained.<\/p>\n<p>Proceedings for the day will include a mass celebrated by Bishop Leslie Tomlinson at 11am followed by a barbecue at midday.<\/p>\n<p>A rosary procession will follow with the crowning of the Fatima statue afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>Further information is available at <a href=\"https:\/\/bendigofatima.com\/marian-festival\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bendigofatima.com\/marian-festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Bendigo Apostolate of Our Lady of Fatima will hold its fiftieth annual Marian Festival on Sunday 13 October at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Wattle Street.
