Alex Lloyd to amaze north coast audiences
SINGER-songwriter Alex Lloyd returns to the region with an intimate acoustic show at Pearce’s Creek Hall on August 9. Lloyd’s distinctive voice captured the hearts of music lovers everywhere with his 2001 breakthrough single, Amazing.
The multi-awarded artist has garnered four ARIAs and two APRA awards over 10 albums.
His music has always transcended genres from experimental to stripped-back bare emotion, blending rock, folk, and pop with a soulful delivery.
Lloyd played in bands from the age of 13 and went solo in 1997. His debut album, Black the Sun, brought critical and commercial acclaim and propelled him towards the path to stardom.
This was quickly followed by the album Watching Angels Mend and several singles that all shot to the top of the charts: Amazing, Green, and Everybody’s Laughing. The album sold over 280,000 copies and was the most successful Australian album release of that year.
Black the Sun, Watching Angels Mend, and his third album, Distant Light, sold more than 500,000 copies collectively and earned multiple awards.
His fourth release, the self-titled Alex Lloyd, was a five-time platinum-selling album.
Lloyd won the ARIA Breakthrough Artist and Best Male Artist in 1999 and 2000, respectively. In 2002, he received seven nominations and won Best Male Artist, a feat repeated with the same award in 2003.
The now iconic Amazing won APRA’s Song of the Year, was named number one on the Triple J Hottest 100, and was the most-played song on Australian radio that year.
The husband and father of four was based in London for six years, and since his return in 2012, he has released music and toured relentlessly.
Lloyd is known for his authentic and captivating live performances and his introspective writing that delves into themes of love, loss, and self-discovery.
The forthcoming Ballina show is an opportunity to see and hear one of Australia’s finest singer-songwriters mastering his craft in atmospheric, intimate mode.
Alex Lloyd plays Pearce’s Creek Hall Friday August 9 at 8.30pm. Doors open at 7 pm. events.humanitix.com/alex-lloyd-at-pearce-s-creek-hall
