Best seatsin the house
The gripping one-woman play ‘Prima Facie’ starring Jodie Comer (‘Killing Eve’) in her Olivier and Tony Award-winning performance returns on the big screen at Byron Theatre on October 2.
National Theatre Live, the UK company that for 15 years has been giving the world the best seat in the house, captured the West End Empire Street production in 2022.
The gripping play, written by Suzie Miller and directed by Justin Martin, centres on a brilliant young barrister named Tessa.
From working-class origins, she has battled to be at the top of her game when an unexpected event forces her to confront the moral clash of the patriarchy of the legal system and the burden of proof.
‘Prima Facie’ aims at the nexus of emotion and experience colliding with the rules of the game.
The solo tour de force had a sold-out run at the West End Harold Pinter Theatre in London.
National Theatre Live has built its reputation filming live theatre in front of audiences while optimising each element for a big screen experience.
In 2024, it celebrated its 100th production, beginning with the first play, ‘Phedre’, starring Helen Mirren, in 2009.
In collaboration with theatre technical teams, each production is captured in fine detail, including tailored camera positions, lighting, hair and makeup, subtle acting and sweeping wide shots, which all translate in crystal clarity to the big screen.
Britain’s most exciting stage productions have now screened to more than 12 million theatre lovers in cinemas around the world.
‘Prima Facie’ runs for 145 minutes and includes a 20-minute interval with complimentary afternoon tea for members of the audience to discuss the play’s progression.
