Bestselling crime writer Chris Hammer in Lismore
Bestselling crime author Chris Hammer will discuss his new novel ‘The Valley’ at Goonellabah Library in Lismore on Thursday, October 3.
As part of a 40-date book tour across the country, the author will chat with former Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell OAM about his prolific career and latest title and will participate in a Q&A and book signing.
Hammer is a leading Australian crime fiction novelist and author of the internationally bestselling Martin Scarsden series ‘Scrublands’, ‘Silver’ and ‘Trust’. His books are known for their atmospheric Aussie settings, intricate plots and casts of colourful characters.
‘Scrublands’ was an instant bestseller upon publication in 2018, topping the Australian fiction charts. It was named the Sunday Times Crime Novel of the Year 2019 in the UK and won the prestigious UK Crime Writers’ Association John Creasey New Blood Dagger Award.
The latest instalment features a page-turning plot and an evocative sense of place, where nothing is ever quite what it seems. Perpetual protagonists Nell Buchanan and Ivan Lucic are back, and Nell is thrown into her most emotionally fraught investigation yet. A controversial entrepreneur is murdered in a remote mountain valley, and the duo are soon contending with cowboy lawyers, con men, bullion thieves and grave robbers.
With a career spanning more than 30 years in journalism, Hammer brings a wealth of experience to his storytelling. He reported from six continents for SBS television, and his other roles included chief political correspondent for The Bulletin, senior writer for The Age and online political editor for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.
