Byron Theatre’s speakeasy is returning – and the line-up is huge
BYRON Theatre will step back in time this summer, transforming into a prohibition-era nightclub complete with candlelit tables and sophisticated cocktails for the Byron Speakeasy performance series.
Blues, jazz and reggae favourite Pat Powell of the Melbourne Ska Orchestra, ARIA Award-winning former The Voice contestant Karise Eden and powerhouse jazz vocalist Emma Pask are among the performers lined up for the six-night program, running from January 2 to 10.
The bill also features internationally acclaimed jazz bassist and vocalist Nicki Parrott, known for performing with guitar greats including Paul McCartney and Tommy Emmanuel as part of the Les Paul Trio, as well as in numerous Broadway productions in New York.

Charismatic singer-songwriter Brendan MacLean – who portrayed Klipspringer in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, has starred in Jekyll & Hyde The Musical and won an AACTA Award for his role opposite Hugo Weaving in How to Make Gravy – will also take the stage.
Rounding out the program are local favourites Hussy Hicks, bringing their distinctive blend of blues, folk, rock and roots to the speakeasy setting.
Event producer Jon Howell said the concept was designed to offer a retreat from the bustle of Byron Bay’s peak season.

“We wanted to carve out a space where the night feels special again – where you can escape the crowds, hear extraordinary musicians up close and actually connect with the people you’re with,” he said.
“For many visitors and locals, it became the highlight of their January. This year, we’re taking it further.”
