The Big Chill returns with classic and concert

IN 1983, The Big Chill was an instant smash, as was its classic soundtrack of 1960s R&B, rock and soul music.

The story of old college friends reuniting 20 years later at the funeral of one of their group was a poignant portrait of the decline of youthful principles as we age.

Starring some of the best actors of the generation early in their careers, including William Hurt, Kevin Kline, Glenn Close and Jeff Goldblum, the film explores complex human issues of love, grief, suicide, sex, money, guilt and estrangement.

Written and directed by Lawrence Kasdan, it delivered an elucidatory script for the inner characters of the talented ensemble cast.

The sensitively drawn film begs introspection about how life changes us all, from idealism to self-interest, and how much of our past becomes our future – or not.

Three Lords presents a special event at Byron Theatre for fans and the The Big Chill-curious, with the big screen revisiting the 41-year-old film and a concert performance.

The unforgettable soundtrack features Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Miracles, Procol Harum and many more legends of the era.

The Byron Theatre Orchestra will perform the moving soundtrack in a pre-screening concert featuring Cass Eager, Harry Nichols, Dan Brown, Mike Mills and Dave Sanders.

The October 19 event begins at 7.30pm with the venue doors and bar open at 6.30pm for pre-concert drinks and snacks.
