Culinary excellence to shine at Savour The Tweed
THE EXCELLENCE of Tweed region food and drink producers will be illuminated in a brand-new culinary event.
From October 30 to November 3, Savour The Tweed’s inaugural five-day celebration of the region’s rich gourmet offerings will feature a program championing the region’s local culinary talent and provenance.
The partnership between Tweed Shire Council and The Tweed Tourism Company supports a broad brief, with First Nations storytellers and chefs, distillers, brewers, baristas, cheesemakers, farmers and a long list of artisan producers.
The 20 events include native food foraging, farm-to-fork menus, and a wild-caught seafood lunch.
Healthy and sustainable food practices and ethical farming are strong program elements. The rich program also includes farm tours, distillery and brewery masterclasses, long table lunches, storytelling, cooking classes, and local degustations.
Legendary chef, author and Tweed resident Christine Manfield is co-creating the event with local food advocate Amy Colli of Straight to The Source.
The program aims to unearth the distinctive terroir of the region.
“This will be a signature regional event created from the ground up. I’m so excited to collaborate with The Tweed’s impressive line-up of producers, chefs and cultural storytellers,” Manfield said.
“The Tweed’s growing profile as one of Australia’s leading culinary destinations is testament to the creative vision and hard work of the region’s chefs, restaurateurs, growers, distillers, brewers, food producers and First Nations talent.”
Sally Scott, General Manager of The Tweed Tourism Company, said it was an exciting addition to the region’s annual tourism events calendar.
“As a five-day event, Savour The Tweed is the perfect long-weekend getaway for foodies who also want to experience The Tweed’s highlights such as the Tweed Regional
Gallery and Northern Rivers Rail Trail,” she said.
Mayor of Tweed Shire, Chris Cherry, said the inclusive and eco-friendly event is a crucial investment by the Council to host a signature event showcasing the region’s culinary strengths.
“We have aimed to carefully nurture the Tweed’s burgeoning agritourism sector over many years,” Cr Cherry said.
“This new offering is part of our Tweed Events Strategy, which will be on public exhibition in the coming weeks. Events make the Tweed a great place to live and visit, and we are proud to deliver Savour The Tweed with our partners.”
