Flamenco fusion in Circe’s Chords
THE Chachy Penalver Company presents the unique multidisciplinary Circe’s Chords at the Brunswick Picture House on November 16.
Inspired by the Greek mythical character Circe, the show invites viewers to reflect on the powerful feminine creative energy in Flamenco compositions and the conversation between dancers and musicians on stage.
The fusion of music, dance and literature offers a distinctively Australian take on the ancient art form of Flamenco, with a tapestry of flamenco sounds, jazz and Latin-American roots.
The company brings a contemporary edge to the Flamenco tradition, encouraging the emergence of interdisciplinary pieces on stage, and compelling stories of the divine and the earthly found in our fundamental human nature.
With two decades of career experience and an extensive history of collaboration with Flamenco, classical and world music artists, Penalver has curated a talented collective.
The multi-award-winning dancer, choreographer and producer has assembled a multidisciplinary company, bringing together long-time music collaborators and dancers. They will be accompanied by the renowned Arrebato Ensemble – Byron Mark, Greg Alfonzetti, Kieren Ray, Damian de Boos-Smith and singer Zoe Velez.
The show also features dancers Rachael Melky, Xara Zaineddine and Michelle Cervonaro alongside Penalver.
