Fabulous folk triple bill at Pearces Creek
THE atmospheric Pearces Creek Hall will host a unique triple bill of folk/soul/Americana festival artists on Friday, November 8.
Peace Run Records presents Canadian singer-songwriter Ryland Moranz, Australian/Fijian singer-songwriter Andrea Kirwin with Celtic harpist Claire Evelynn, and American/Australian duo Clare Quinn and Lawrence Menard as Those Folk.
The artist-run initiative, inspired by the Woodford Folk Festivals Small Halls concert series, aims to bring quality live concerts to small regional halls.
Canadian singer-songwriter and clawhammer banjo aficionado Ryland Moranz sings and plays the guitar, banjo, harmonica and mandolin. His poignant lyricism is influenced by favourite literary giants such as Kurt Vonnegut and Ernest Hemingway.
Andrea Kirwin and Claire Evelynn’s duo show brings Fijian folk and island soul fusion with Celtic harp. Kirwin’s rich folk/soul originals on guitar, cigar box guitar, and harmonica are accompanied by Evelynn’s deeply beautiful harp.
Favourites at Woodford Folk Festival, Dreaming Festival, Folk Rhythm and Life and Womadelaide, the duo has five independently produced albums under Peace Run Records.
Transpacific troubadours Those Folk made up of Lawrence Menard and Clare Quinn, are fast gaining a following with their striking vocal harmonies and guitar, mandolin, banjo, accordion, harmonica, and percussion arrangements.
Thoughtful lyrics tell tales of travels, love, nostalgia and hope, and channel shades of Simon and Garfunkel, Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings.
Music lovers are encouraged to pack a picnic dinner for the mini folk festival, with each act performing its original songs and stories and joining together for a collaborative finale.
Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm picnic dinner show.
