AUSTRALIAN Idol winner Dylan Wright is sharing his love of the Byron Bay hinterland with the world in the videos for his new EP, Half A World Away.

The clip to accompany his country-pop single Little Lost features Wright driving and walking down the main street of his adopted town, Bangalow, exploring the surrounding hinterland and playing his guitar by the creek in Piccabeen Park.

“We hired a 1965 Mustang and drove around the hills here,” he said.

“It’s just such a special place,

so I take any chance I get to show it off.”

The multi-tempo, melancholic Mess of a Man sees him performing in an empty Newrybar Hall decorated with fairy lights.

Wright said the latter is his favourite song on the six-song EP.

“I wrote it with a few friends and we put all these stories together,” he said. “It’s about not feeling worthy enough or good enough. There’s been so many highs, but with highs come lows as well.”

Wright inked a record deal with Sony Music Entertainment Australia after his Idol win earlier this year and has been busy touring the past few months with his long-time friend and bandmate, Matt Joyce of Sons of Atticus.

“I go away on weekends but come back for weekdays and do a bit of daddy day care and try to spend as much time as possible with my girls, who are two and five,” he said.

He is excited to be performing his first local show since shooting to stardom in the reality singing contest, at Brunswick Picture House on November 29.

“I have seen a few people play there over the years and it’s such an awesome venue,” he said. “I think having a good local show will be fun.”

While he gets recognised “here and there”, Wright finds he can still walk down the main street of Bangalow without being mobbed.

“I feel like not a lot of people have TV around here,” he said.
