THE Tyalgum Music Festival returns to the picturesque village of Tyalgum in Northern NSW from 13-15 September 2024.

The festival offers a rich program blending classical favourites with exciting new performances.

For the first time, the festival will stage a complete opera, with Voxalis Opera presenting Humperdinck’s beloved Hansel and Gretel on the opening night.

Saturday begins with a song cycle titled Mythical Creatures performed by Leanne Keneally and Leon Warnock. At 1 pm, Daniel de Borah and Kristian Winther will perform violin and piano sonatas by Mozart, Bartok, and Shostakovich.

The Orava Quartet will perform throughout the weekend. They will play their namesake work on Saturday and then join the Limpinwood Ensemble for an arrangement of Mozart’s Quintet for Piano and Winds.

The evening ends in a relaxed, café-style setting with jazz vocalist Etienne Steven and the Steve Newcomb Trio.

Sunday features musicians from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. The festival also welcomes the Los Angeles Philharmonic Wind Quintet, performing a program including Bernstein’s West Side Story.

The festival concludes with a French-themed program by harpist Emily Granger and the Orava Quartet.

Festival director Katharine Willison said there is something for everyone, “from a full length Opera to an evening of Jazz and an eclectic mix of chamber music in between,” Willison said.
