A NEW adults-only retreat featuring an on-site bathhouse has opened its doors on Ruskin Street in Byron Bay.

Owned by a local family — previously behind The Bower — and designed by Bangalow-based architect John Burgess, Hide is a complete transformation of what was formerly Aabis at Byron, a budget-friendly Balinese-style hotel catering mainly to corporate travellers.

The property has been fully redesigned to enhance flow and functionality, with each room now offering king-sized beds dressed in premium Cultiver linen, Salus bath products, minibars, in-room coffee, high-speed optic WiFi and private entrances.

At the heart of the retreat is the Wellness Bathhouse, a private recovery zone that includes a heated magnesium mineral pool, an outdoor Stoked spa, a Clearlight infrared sauna, and an Odin ice bath.

The wellness facility is included in the room rate and doesn’t need to be booked in advance.

Sustainability is also a major focus at Hide. The hotel features 80 rooftop solar panels with Tesla batteries to reduce its reliance on the grid, rainwater harvesting systems, and six EV parking spaces with charging stations. Each room is also equipped with complimentary refillable water bottles, allowing guests to enjoy unlimited still and sparkling water from self-serve stations. Refillable Salus bath products are provided as well, eliminating the need for single-use plastics.

Locals interested in viewing the property are welcome to call and arrange a walk-through.

“We are always grateful for local referrals and support,” a spokesperson said.
