Agape comedy fundraiser for National Homelessness Week 6/8

AGAPE Outreach will host its annual Laughing Matters fundraiser at Club Tweed on August 8, featuring comedians Akmal, Ellen Briggs and Mandy Nolan.

The event, held during National Homelessness Week, helps fund Agape’s work providing meals and support to people struggling across the region.

Founding director Theresa Mitchell said the rising cost of living had left more locals in need of help.

“Anyone who’s paying more than a third of their income into housing is potentially living in poverty,” she said.

“We have so many requests for food – people on payments, seniors, families with babies in prams, students, workers and job seekers.”

Mitchell said Agape, which recently had food stolen during a break-in at its cold room, now needs support more than ever.

She said the charity needs more volunteers, particularly in administration, and urged people to support the fundraiser or connect through its social media.
