Australia Day across the Tweed

A SWAG of Australia Day events supported by the Tweed Shire Council will feature across the region this weekend.

The Tweed Shire Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony will be held today, Friday, January 24, honouring some of the shire’s outstanding citizens.

Award winners will be announced following the event and published in this masthead next week.

The invitation-only event also welcomes new Australian residents to the Tweed with a formal citizenship ceremony.

The council sponsors community events held on Sunday, January 26 and also offers funding to community organisations for small community events on three days on either side of January 26.

Events in the region on Sunday include the Rotary Club of Mt Warning’s Murwillumbah Australia Day Celebrations and pool party at the Murwillumbah Pool from 9 am.

The Crabbes Creek Community Hall Association will host an Australia Day breakfast from 8am.

The Tyalgum Community Hall will host an event starting at 9.30am. The Tumbulgum Community Cricket Challenge and Community Awards at Brian Breckenridge Field and Tumbulgum Tavern kicks off at 10am.

The Lions Club will host its 2025 Australia Day Event from 6.30am at Lions Park, Norries Headland at Cabarita Beach. The free community breakfast will be followed by the presentation of the Australia Day Awards to community members and selected school children from three local schools.

Many hotels, surf clubs and other local venues across the Tweed are also holding Australia Day themed days and events.
