RECOVERY efforts are progressing across Ballina Shire, with council facilities reopening and additional waste services in place to assist residents impacted by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Most council facilities, including the customer service centre, Ballina Indoor Sports Centre, and swimming pools, have resumed normal operations.

The Ballina Resource Recovery Centre has also reopened, with free storm waste drop-off available for residents.

The council has implemented supplementary bin collections for properties affected by missed services last week.

Residents are urged to separate spoiled food into FOGO bins to prevent contamination.

Sandbag disposal services have also been established. Once severe weather and the risk of flooding have passed, full sandbags can be taken to the old council depot on Tamarind Drive for proper disposal.

Ballina’s Recovery Assistance Point is operating at Ballina Surf Club until Sunday, March 16, providing support and information for affected residents.

Motorists are advised to avoid Ross Lane, which remains closed due to flooding, and to check Live Traffic NSW for updates on road conditions. The Burns Point Ferry is also closed until further notice.

Residents needing assistance with fallen trees can contact council on 1300 864 444 or the SES on 132 500.
